Canon’s this telephoto zoom lens has been amingst the top few list in most photographers and has been buzzing for quite a fe weeks now. The key feature according to Canon is its compact design and low weight which is one of the popular demand recently by all photographers. But they have not stayed behind in other photography features as well. You have better image stabilization and faster shitter time along with high zoom ratio.

The lens looks like the perfect tele zoom for the Rebel XSi, Rebel XTi and budget-minded 40D users. As an EF-s lens, it will only work on the 40D, 30D, 20D, 20Da (astronomical), Digital Rebel XSi, Digital Rebel XTi, Digital Rebel XT and the original Canon Digital Rebel. All modern Canon lenses focus with a motor in the lens. On the 1.6x cameras for which it is designed, it gives angles of view similar to what a 88-400mm lens would give on a 35mm film camera. For the price, I expect this Canon 55-250mm IS EF-s to become my top lens suggestion for everyone on a budget who needs a tele lens for Canon digital….

I gave up waiting and purchased my EF-S 55-250 in Canada. Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens Compared to Similar Telephoto Zoom Lenses – Hoods Attached Retracted | Zoom & Focus Extended. All Canon lenses stop down far narrower than their wide open advertised aperture settings – typically to f/16 – f/32. Center of the lens performance is best at the wide end and slowly degrades at to the long end with the barrel distortion changing to pincushion distortion giving this appearance a boost. I have the Canon EF 200mm f/2.8 L USM Lens loaded in the link just provided.
